Can Nor Cal dethrone Pacifica HS?

Post by Slaphappy7 » Mon Apr 20, 2009 4:01 pm

Can any current Nor Cal Open school dethrone Pacifica HS?

So Pacifica wins PSO (again) by over a point (again) thus adding to the dominance in the division.

Now the $64,000 question is can (not which) any current nor cal school (NCBA or CCGC) dethrone the current kings of the mountain? Better yet, do they have a chance. I think so. I think It’s be a Fairfield, Jesse Bethel, Homestead or an Amador Valley (if they can come back from this rebuild year) that could do it.

What do ya’ll think?

Any of those groups have a shot as long as they keep up what their doing.

Yes I know this was a tough year for us (Amador Valley) but Homestead, Jesse Bethel and Fairfeild are all good groups but I don't think any of them went to Dayton.......?

So many factors involved. Depending on instructors, quality of design, experience of kids...etc

I'm pretty sure 2/4 aforementioned lines will be going to the land of Ohio ($1 to Banished Beyond) next year.

But don't quote me on it.

If what you are asking is whether or not there are any NorCal groups that can reach the top in terms of WGI Open Class, then I think that is a very worthwhile question. Each of the groups out there sets goals. For some, it is to be competitive within their class. For others, they simply want to put out a good show that everyone enjoys. Others are looking to find ways to expand the envelope so they look for new and innovative ways to bring indoor percussion to their audience.

At least that is what I have learned in the last few years.

As for how any of these groups might measure up to Pacifica specifically, the only way to know that is to go head to head in competition.

Of course, folks like to speculate what "could" happen. To get some idea I suppose you could look a the WBA percussion caption awards earned by each of those groups up and down California that compete in the WBA circuit. When I look at last year I believe that both Homestead and Amador Valley compete in the same AAAAA classification as Fountain Valley. How did their percussion caption scores from last season compare to Fountain Valley? That could give you some indication as to how these groups might do in a WGI competition, if you are really curious.

Of course, as I already said, the only way to really know is to put them all on the floor together. That is the beauty of going to Dayton. Its all out there.

I was there in Dayton and saw some amazing groups give it their best against Pacifica...but Pacifica just knows how to get the job done. I watched their Finals performance from the 50, and they did their thing. I thought Trumbull put on a great performance with some really nice moments of velocity, but when all was said and done, Pacifica just had the complete package.

Pacifica knows what they are doing. Very strong Open line and kudos for them on winning again in WGI.

if a north cal line thinks they can take them down or thinks that Pacifica isent good or whatever you think, then maybe you should come down to so cal and compete. Dont forget though, socal has a lot of awsome open lines. Rancho Cucamonga this year was amazing and so was fountain valley.

plus it will be nice to bring nor cal lines here in the mix. =)

I wouldnt say a mini wgi finals at all. if you notice, all the so cal lines that go out to dayton do really well. im curious what would happen if our top 7 in finals went to dayton. if you go to the scpa website and look at the scores, its a nice picture of what could be at dayton.

im not saying that those top 7 will make finals either but i can say that they have a very strong chance of pulling that off.

not talking bad about north cal lines either. james logan is awsome and would love to have them come down to scpa. thatll be amazing. but their were some nor cal lines that came this year and pretty much didnt make finals.

so cal is very staked from what ive noticed, itll be awsome if more nor cal groups came down to compete. ive always loved watching anyone from up north come down cause its so rare to see. hopefully next year we can :D

I meant it as a compliment lolz

They have WGI sheets, WGI quality judges, and MANY (but not even half) of the competitive lines in WGI.

Seems likes a mini WGI finals to me? Perhaps "power regional" would be a less offensive term?

Does this topic make anyone else uncomfortable? Is it really necessary to single a group out like this? Seems tacky to me, even if it wasn't my group!
I can't believe how many people have actually replied to this in a serious manner...

Uncomfortable? Perhaps a bit, but mostly from a "why ask" point of view. As for singling out a specific group, hey, if it's good enough for PAB proposals at WGI...
