All Percussion winter show

Post by Slaphappy7 » Thu Apr 02, 2009 5:55 pm

Pretty straight forward question. If either nor cal circuit held a show that was all perc would you go? And by all perc I mean a nice all day long haul of at least 20 line and possible a prelims finals format if people wanted it. Now there may not be a want or need for this kind of show and obviously if a school has a guard unit it’d make more sense to goto to a prec\guard show. But seeing the number of lines in each class, I think it’s doable.

Would it work? Would it flop? How can you ensure it does work? Would we want it?

Yes I know there's WGI Union City and Ceres, but I'm talking about a show that's not a regional

That's how SJVCGPR championships are here in central CA, and it seems to be very popular.

I voted yes only if it was CCGC. I'd definetely consider it if the show used either CCGC and/or WGI judges using WGI score sheets and rulebook and most importantly... VENUE. NCBA uses the most anti-percussion friendly venues known to man. haha. CCGC/WGI considers everything such as acoustics, double doors w/ no bars, gym size, gym accessibility/layout (no temporary wooden ramps leading into the gym for instruments OR call ahead and let the host know if you have big props/instruments and they'll open the wall and let you through), drumline friendly parking lots, etc. CCGC/WGI puts a lot of thought and consideration in their venue selections. In my opinion, NCBA seems like they choose their venues based on who's turn it is to host and to ensure that the venue has 2 gyms (if needed)... that's it. haha. The only thing NCBA has going for them at most venues are the director/staff lounges. haha.

It would be great to have a prelims and finals format along with a critique in between. Maybe even with the Blue Devils "A" drumline doing a clinic like they used to back in the days at the Union City Regionals. That would be real fun for the kids. But knowing that most of them drum for RCC during the winter, probably won't happen. Anyhow, doing CCGC will potentially invite drumlines to come that never do NCBA such as James Logan, Homestead & independent lines like Freelancers (not exhibition) and maybe some central valley drumlines.
