Where's all the drumlines? Why are NCBA and CCGC shows always so light?

its the first show of the season for NCBA so its typicaly a small show. Also NCBA has 2 different show locations on the same day so that helps keep the size down.

Are you really trying to compare a performing arts activity in southern california to any other place in the world? :rotf:

Heres just a few reasons why that isnt a fair comparison.

1) The number of high schools in southern california is insane, and its all within driving distance. Even if you are a san diego resident a show near L.A. can be a one day event.

2) Related to the first one, this is one of the most densely populated areas in the country, you would have to go to the north east to find anything like it.

3) If you want to be a dancer you go to L.A. or Paris. If you want to be a musician you go to L.A. or New york. If you want to be an actor... notice a trend here? The talent level of available instructors and motivated artists in the area is the exception, not the standard.

4) Can you site any other LOCAL drumline circuit that has the numbers SPCA does in feb??? I doubt you can find anything within 2k miles, if at all.

5) weather!!!! In southern california rehearsing outside in december isnt a problem. BUT, if your like most schools you might be lacking in gym time after the basketball team gives you their left overs. No gym, its raining outside, how much drill do you think were gonna get done by feb 14th?

When I lived in riverside I was blown away by the talent level of some high schools. When my sister moved to LA she was blown away by the talent level of young dancers in the area (she also teaches). Once again what is going on in So Cal with drumlines is the exception, not the standard.

Lets not compare apples and watermelons please. :td:

So NCBA or CCGC will never be like SPCA or ADLA for that manner. Correct? (Their #'s are pretty stacked as well.) CCGC will never have PIO or PIW lines at their shows? The largest shows are NCBA champs and the Union City WGI regional. Everything else is 0800 – 1500 for perc if you’re lucky. If bigmikedrivesbmw was correct and NCBA has 2 shows in separate locations on the same day why not just cut on of them out. One show, lots of lines lots of completion. Everyone gets to see everyone else and see where they truly stand before finals.

Not trying to compare our apples to their watermelons... just trying to make our orchard a little bigger.

Correct, Ill go ahead and make the prediction. NCBA will never have the amount of high quality groups as there are in SCPA. As soon as we catch up to the numbers they have today, they will have grown at what I would predict is a faster rate.
CCGC will never have PIO or PIW lines at their shows?
Well it doesn't make a lot of sense to go to a competition where you arnt competing against anyone, but I never said anything about that. I could see Freelancers (if they are back next year) going to the same CCGC show as James Logan (staff overlap). Envision could make a appearance at a NCBA/CCGC show, but why would they spend the money to come over the hill from Reno when they could be saving up to go to WGI finals. I dont even know if NCBA would judge them, they would have to do exhibition.
Not trying to compare our apples to their watermelons... just trying to make our orchard a little bigger.
I dont think cutting out NCBA shows or complaining on an internet forum is the way to catch up to SCPA. Get your students to start a line at a place where there isn't a line. Better for all of us if its a middle school.

Sorry to be such a realist...
:D best wishes this season
