They have done well at WGI but none of them have done well in WGI world. Last year at fairfield we got 2nd in open at the union city regional. We were stoked to be sure, but ill come out and say there is no way we would turn heads in world. As mentioned earlier the amount of money spent on those programs and the size of some of those schools makes it hard to compete on that level.

I would say a good first goal is anyone from NCBA taking a few WGI open shows. Start beating Pacifica, then its time to talk about world.

I agree. I was wishing they would just say screw it and go to Dayton with that

Size isn't everything though. The 2008 PSW bronze medalist Claremont HS marched 3/2/5 if I recall. Pit was normal size but man they threw down.

But I will agree that $$$ does have some play into it.

I'm talking about the size of the school, not the size of the line after people are cut. (I love a clean 3 man snare line)

When your school is big, your band program is big, you get kids from more feeder programs ext.... all this gives you a larger pool of talent to draw from.

"Claremont High School serves 2,236" (from their website)

Its not huge, but its a lot bigger than any school I have worked at. I'm betting there arnt any major players in NCBA who have a school that size.

On I side not i'm gonna check that show out.

Post your thoughts on it. IMO cleanest rolls (Especially decrescendo rolls) in PSW last year.

And I'm honestly still trying to wrap my brain around Dartmouth's show too. I get it but I don't "get it"

Maybe this will spark some discussion. What NCBA shows do you folks think can be given the credit/title of most innovative (in the NCBA arena) take HS or MS class. And just for fun user anything from the last… 3 years.

Money has nothing to do with it. It's all about show desing. Don't buy a pre-packaged show online and think you can compete. Desing a great original show with great G.E. moments, Remember that this is all about drumming, don't let the dance and role playing ever make you lose sight of this.

I agree on the don't buy a canned show and expect to win (not anymore in NCBA @ least)

but, do you have examples at lines that have previled over the money points gap?

No I do not have any examples of high school lines that have prevailed without money. If you have the show and you have the players, money should not matter. I don't understand why it would as long as you had the equipment. I have seen a lot of lines in NCBA spending a ton of money on props and things like that and have not done anything with them. I have seen wgi lnes come out with very little extra stuff and play the hell out of their show. When I created the Freelancer winter line, I started with a very low budget. We did not use any props the first year and we used the Drum Corps uniforms. We did ok for ourselves that first year.

I couldnt find a copy of the show anywhere. I saw some lot stuff and I remember seeing them warming up in so cal last year. The snares were playing by themselves and you could tell every single one of them was playing with a great sound.

Show and equipment = money.

I can think of lines that have done well without direct funds, but it usualy comes at the expense of somones time money and effort. I comend those people

Why does show and equipment equal money? You should have almost everything you need from your marching band drumline. As far as show goes, your staff should write it and not pay a outside person $3000.00 to write it. The first year I brought the Freelancers out, no staff member got paid more than $200.00 a month and I didn't take any money. We did it for the fun of the activity and to bring the Freelancers back in some way. The only thing I see different from NCBA and WGI is show design. Put some thought into them and make sure there is plenty of G.E. written. Always remember, it is and will always be about the drumming. It doesn't matter how many props you have, play cool licks and play them clean.

Anyway, I was wondering what groups will be in what divisions for this year's events.
