Sacramento State Winter Ensemble

Post by SacStateDrumline99 » Tue Nov 18, 2008 1:24 pm

This is an official announcement that there will be a Sacramento State Winter Ensemble this competitive winter season. It has been a couple of winter seasons since Sacramento State has produced a winter ensemble but with a new Band Director and Staff we have decided that it is time to bring it back.

The ensemble will be comprised of marching percussion (battery 8 snares, 4 tenors, 5-6 bass drums), front ensemble (Pit 6-8 mallet players, 2-3 aux. percussion, electric bass/guitar, set), marching color guard (as many as we can fit on the floor with a marching battery) and of course the most unique part of our winter ensemble... a band!!! Primary instrumentation will be that of a Jazz band featuring screaming trumpets, rippin sax riffs and will be backed up with all other forms of marching band instrumentation including woodwind instruments and Sousaphones!. Size of this part of the ensemble will be determined as interest sees fit.

Battery percussion and pit will be meeting starting Monday Nov. 24th from 6-9pm at Capistrano Hall (music building) at Sacramento State. For Snares and Tenors individuals will need to bring their own sticks or mallets for the first few rehearsals. For bass drums and pit we will provided school owned mallets to be used. Individuals interested in a battery instrument will need to come in clothes appropriate to march in... indoor and/or outdoors!

Regular rehearsals will be held Mon. and Wed. nights from 6-9pm and Fri. nights (same times) before a Saturday performance. There will be 4 Sat. and 2 Fri. night EXHIBITION performances (tentatively) at NCBA winter shows including Championships at Lincoln High School in Stockton.

This is a great opportunity for instructors of schools competing in the NCBA circuit to be a part of a performing ensemble and your students can you see you in action. Members of this ensemble do not have to be Sacramento State students (although you will be representing Sacramento State),individuals who have a great attitude, skills for the instrument and desire to attend every rehearsal and performance will be given an opportunity at being a part of this ensemble. ***High school students that attend schools that have winter programs will not be permitted to join this group and all other high school student eligibility for this ensemble will be considered on a case-by-case bases***
