Advice please!

I have a great group of girls for my colorguard. At our competitions though, their showmanship score is not so great. No matter what I do, the girls always look extremely nervous when they are performing their show. I've tried every confidence building exercise I can think of! Does anyone have any advice on how to make them relax? I just want them to look like they're actually having fun!

A good way to make them relax is go through breathing exercises before they go perform. It always helped me relax! Or have a show for their families at the beginning of the season so they get used to performing with no judges.

If they know their stuff, that will build confidence. If they don't, they won't.

As a performer myself, I think you should have them perform in front of the parents and people they know so they can be comfortable in front of an audience.

Confidence is developed by taking a risk and surviving it successfully. The risk is determined by the individual. For one it may be risky to toss a triple on a rifle and successfully catch it. To others it may be getting out in front of an audience and performing. Regardless they need to take the risk and succeed. That's how they will develop confidence.

Sorry for the really delayed response but thanks for all of your advice. A special shout out to you, Mad City. I actually quoted something from your response at practice one day and it really seemed to work. Thank you :)
