What type of paint do you use and is there a method to it? Would you recommend anything specific? Thanks!!

here is my method..anyone feel free to add any tips/different methods

1.have your students flip the floor over and use duct tape to cover and knicks/holes from the previous season so the paint does not leak through..

2. Wash the floor side you are going to paint thoroughly..I use Clorox bleach wipes and towels.

3.Buy a flat/semi gloss paint...make sure you put plastic around the edges as to not make a mess of your painting area

4.after your floor has been painted and completely dried dust it with a light coat of baby powder and have your students walk across the floor in their socks to rub it onto the floor...this prevents the new paint from sticking to the folds once you put the floor away (I recommend doing this outside!)

5.the next time you pull out the floor (with baby powder...outside!) Sweep it off..you might not get all of it off but eventually it will come off with your students use.

Hope that helps! :D

^I would add, make sure to buy an exterior latex paint. Interior seems to flake off. And oil based takes FOREVER to dry.

I also dilute the paint with about 1 cup (8 oz) of water for every gallon to help it dry a bit quicker. Don't do much more than this though or it won't cover as well.

Hey Skippy...

do the clorox wipes do a good job of cleaning the floor? Ours was used by percussion last year, and it's dirty! However, we have not had a day where we could get it out to wash and dry. So am wondering if that takes care of most of the dirt and dries faster?

I found a spray cleaner at Home Depot called "Krud Kutter". Stuff was magic for cleaning our floor, and it did not leave a residue.
