James Logan 2009 Show

Post by BayArea510 » Mon Feb 09, 2009 11:20 pm

So it looks like Logans new 2009 show is up on youtube. The quality is not that great and the audio isn't any better but you get a pretty good idea of what their show is, although it is shot from the back. I thought it was pretty bad a** if I do say so myself. It's very very very colorful and it seems to have a tribal theme going on, I want to say that the music sounds abarigonal. Throughout the show the riffle line boys are dragging some of the girls across the floor with their riffles in their mouth! People are being lifted up and riffles are tossed over them and at the end it looks like a girl is hanging upside down on a bar (think of swinging upside down on the monkey bars) as two other members hold the bars and walk forward with her hanging on upside down. Overall I would say the show has kind of animalistic feel to it. It looks great and I can't wait to see what it really looks like from the front lol.

Anyways I will stop babbling on, go check their show out on youtube. My alma mater is making me proud!

Do you happen to know the show title? It might confirm my suspicions of what the show is about.

once again a group is using that unique, but seldom used, piece of equipment . . . the riffle

It probably had to come down. There's alot of copy right protection on shows and music. Plus if this was recorded from the back, it was an unathorized recording.

Hate to be "buzz kill" but rules are rules. Guards can get in trouble if shows end up on the internet like that.

I believe the show title is "The Dreamtime"

Based on the digeridoo in the soundtrack and their costuming (aboriginal style markings..etc)...this is based on this...

Very innovative as always and of course...well performed.

I saw the show last night at the Ceres regional, I loved it, the flow of the drill and work really drew your eye to the right spot. I didn't really like the last 30 seconds, but it was effective.

This website is interesting... people comment on the mistakes of other groups (drops, bad shows, bad technique etc etc) but honestly those making the comments must not have groups that are very good either since so much of their time is wasted on here talking all negative about everyone else instead of worrying about their own group... haha

I agree, its kinda sad when a high school instructor comes on this forum to speak poorly about another high school group.

I concur will both your statements about dissing other performing groups and their shows. I definitely believe that all the negative comments should stay away.

But at the same time, you must realize that Logan WORLD guard is a very competitive group and their expectations are high. It has always been like that, it still is, and no doubt it will continue to be. Their status in the world of colorguard will remain great. So, I also do believe Logan needs to clean up their stuff.

I mean, since we are in the world of colorguard/winterguard, and most believe that the activity is a sport, I would think us discussing their strengths and weakness need not be a problem. Its like, for example, (excuse my lack of background to this), saying that the 49ers need to clean up their act, that their quarterback needs to learn to run bent leg rather than straight legs, and they need to have more defense than offense(again i am sorry if that information is invalid or even if it makes any sense). It critizism/comments from Fans of the activity.

Hmmm, I wasn't actually as bothered by the criticism (and IMO this wasn't dissing) as much as I was by the focus of the criticism ................. drops. There's so much more to a great world guard show than execution and I guess I find it troubling that there still seems to be a tendency to rate what is good or bad based on the achievment of perfection ... what about all the rest of it?

I totally agree, I think the STAFF at logan can take some criticism about the design of their show. Lets just make sure the adults go easy on the kids performance.

If you have an issue with a comment that someone has posted, please bring your concerns to me. There's no need for disrespect toward anyone on the forum.
Constructive criticism creates good discussion, but it should be done in a respectful way.
Please refrain from bashing other instructors as well, if you read something that you think is inappropriate, you are more than welcome to address your concern with me via PM. Thanks!

I agree with the moderator....I started this topic to talk about Logans show, not to get our panties in bunch  I think it is fair to talk about what you liked and didn't like about a show as long as it is done respectfully. I mean at times I think it is good to have some healthy criticism, it's what helps improve shows. I don't think anything posted here was dissing Logan, just some good ol healthy feedback. They are a great group so lets chill.....
