That is so cool!! I would get nervous to conduct the show!! What if you lost the beat or the band didn't follow... ah scary!!

that is why metronomes are our best friends.

Make Orange Juice.
Then leave the world wondering
how the hell you did it.

haha losing the beat isn't a big deal, that's happened to me before, you just chill for the rest of the measure and jump right back in on one, not too bad.. but it doesn't happen very often, if you know the music it's not hard

and as far as the band not following.. haha yeah. good point. lol

how many drum majors are you supposed to have?

i'm maria. assistant drum major for John F. Kennedy High School in La Palma. most likely drum major for o8' and o9'.

our drum major is a guy names David Espinoza. i should have gotten the spot except i'm only a sophomore.

You can never be too sure lol j/k!

anywho.. maybe it's like a class thing like montebello. we have reserved spots.. like i said before.. i dont know if i did or not.. but we have tryouts their freshman year and 3 or 4 makes it.. then they move on to sophomore year.. then at the end of their sophomore year.. they try out and one makes it and is the jr drum major and moves on to senior drum major..

rotfl High 5! :yeah:
yeah! let's hear it for all of us that preferr to just control the band from the shadows!
mwahahaha it's soo true. I dont have the title of DM but im basically the one who does most of the leadership stuff (except for like official DM stuff) but like the getting people to not quit, recruit, stop the drama, help people figure out their music. im there 8-)
... and boom.

it's not so much of me being sure of myself as me being sure of the band. 2 years ago only like...one person tried out and got asst. dm automatically. last year about 15 people showed up for the 1st DM meeting. by the second month there was about 7 still interested. at the tryouts only 5 showed up. 3 of those being freshman. one of those freshman being me. nobody seems to want all the pressure and responsibility of a DM so i doubt more than a couple people will actually try out this year. the rest mainly want to be just section leaders.. and since i already have the experience my chances are pretty good.

Haha, well, technically, I was a drum major... but that was a long, long time ago... well not too long ago, I was the drum major of Vallejo High School back in 2004-2005. Oh well, let's step away from the past, shall we?

The Vallejo High School Proud Heritage Marching Band and Guard will be led by:

Drum Major Keith Parks
Assistant Drum Major Rey Sanchez

Both whom I'm proud of, of course!

Oh, yeah, by the way, I'm Erik, I'm no longer in band, obviously, but you'll see me with the guard! ^__^
