Has anyone heard has the WBA found a facility for the Championships on the week of 11/20/04? Heard that UOP cancelled and now WBA is scrambling for a site.....

If this is true, I am sure WBA will find a home for the WBA Championships this year. In the past Fresno has provided a very good logistical area for this event. Hopefully they will bring it to Buchanan HS/Clovis HS and have it just remain here, since they always have trouble finding a centralized location. I like the idea of it rotating every year, but when problems like this happen it makes me want to just keep it in one place. And I dont think those schools I mentioned mind having this event...We'll see.

I agree with you and I am all for moving it year after year (i.e. Northern CA, Central CA, Southern CA), but whenever WBA Championships is held in Central California (i.e. Fresno and Clovis areas) more bands tend to come to the event. Logistically Fresno is more of a centralized location for the event, and I would go as far as saying Stockton is too, but directors themselves have said Fresno is a great central location. The truth of the matter, every year there will be bands who wont be able to attend due to distance. Think about how much Northern CA and Southern CA bands spend when they have to make the trip all the way to the opposing direction each year.bari07 wrote:I think keeping it in the same place every year isn't really a good idea.. California is such a big state and it will discourage people all the way on the other side of the state to go...

keep rotating schedule
Oh I am not supporting keeping it to one same site each year. I like the rotation schedule best. But it seems that getting a proper stadium is getting tougher each year. Last word I got is it is now scheduled for San Jose area. Another thing to consider besides costs is logistics. A last minute change means all the bands that travel have to now make new hotel reservations in less than a months notice ...which took months to get the original reservations. typically getting rooms for 200 plus people is not that easy. So I wonder how many bands will not go because of logistics?

I agree with you there too! However, I mentioned this to my band director Dr. Gary P. Gilroy and he did not know of this WBA Stadium business...Where exactly did you hear this from if you dont mind me asking? And for anyone who might ask. CSUF has a football game or something going on in the stadium that weekend, so our stadium cant be used...But I would like to know where this rumor got started...Otherwise I will e-mail Shirlee and Kathy Whitcomb.jacjar1 wrote:Oh I am not supporting keeping it to one same site each year. Email went out to all the WBA bands...found this on Trabuco Hills website
To All Marching Band and Color Guard Participants and Boosters:
We have received notice from the Western Band Association that their championship competition, scheduled for the weekend of November 19-21st, will NO LONGER be held at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. At this date, there is no venue contracted for our particular division. We have been asked by WBA to cancel our hotel rooms in Stockton, as the city of competition will most definitely change. Negotiations have begun between WBA and San Jose State University, in San Jose, California, but that option is quite tentative to date.
Please discontinue making any travel arrangements to the Stockton area, until further notice. I will pass on the final venue information the moment it is confirmed. -Lisa

Yes, you are correct. The A/AA/AAA venue is scheduled to be held at Peter Johansen High School in Modesto, California. The AAAA/AAAAA is the only location which still needs to be finalized. No new information has been sent as of today.

Re: WBA Championships
It really disturbs me that this type of event cant have everyone in the same vicinity. Say 4A/5A were to be held in San Jose, that would make the event in my opinion a little too separted. At least in the past when it has been held in a city, the sites for the divisions have all been within 10-15 minutes driving distance for those who would want to see other bands perform. I would rather see all bands performing in the same city/area rather than really splitting up.qdogisgod wrote:Yes, you are correct.
