The Westview FT is an "evaluation" show only... no competition. There are no placings or awards.

Would you happen to know if the Poway show (Oct.9) is an "evaluation" type show as well?

Poway FT

Post by vore » Mon Sep 27, 2004 12:06 pm

As of last week, the October 9 Poway FT has 5 bands entered in the event. The PFT is competitive but is not being adjudicated by SCSBOA. Individual experienced judges are being hired for this event.

Traditionally the host does not compete in their own tournament, but would Poway be allowed to compete in it since this is not an SCSBOA-adjudicated event?

This is only tradition - not a rule. Mission Viejo used to compete at the SCSBOA-adjudcated Mission Viejo Field Tournament.

Poway could compete in their own tournament regardless of who is judging. However, since the event has always been a non-competitive festival rating and comments only event without trophies, I would be surprised to hear they decided to make it competitive. That would kind of change the nature of the event, not just the judging. But that's just my opinion.... Yet, it could happen.

Host School....

Tradition is just that.... tradition.

The host group may compete in their own event if they so choose. This goes for any high school event or DCI event. It is up to the host to make this decision.
