... and assign them stand tunes, what would be the list?

In my case, my first step is, obviously, to Trojanize the band (esepcially to my alma matar's Bruinized band), meaning to make them place lots of USC band 8-) related tunes:

Tribute to Troy
Heartbreaker
Dance to the Music
Frankenstein
In the Stone
Another One Bites the Dust
Charge!!!
Neocon (BRAND NEW tune for the SC band!!!)
Conquest! (After winning the game)

But there are plenty of other tunes I would like to add for the band:

(Las Virgines de) La Macarena
The Hey Song
Go! Fight! Win!
Time Warp
Jungle Boogie
Brick House
Play that Funky Music
Boogie Nights
Power Drive
The Barbarian Horde
Jaws
Ffun (by Rowloff)
Iron Man (pity that fucla band uses it)
Rock Star (Percussion Feature)
Get Your Freak One (Percussion Feature)
North High School Saxon Regiment ('00~'02)
North High School Drum Line ('00~'02)
North High School #10 Tin Can Band ('01~'02)
El Camino College Varsity Band ('03~'05)
USC Trojan Marching Band ('03~'06)

Hey! Shota Hanai

I'm currently a Music Education/Percussion Major at RCC. If I was in charge to assign the band stand tunes it would be like this:

The Hey Song
Land of 1000 Dances
Eye of The Tiger
Louie Louie
JailHouse Rock
September
Tribute to Troy

Jungle Boogie
Play that Funky Music
Boogie Nights

Star Wars Finale (Ohio State again :P )
76 Trombones
Malaguena

Nintedo Mix (A Stand tune that i will write one day before I die that will be comprised of a whole bunch of addicting game boy melodies)

Bohemian Rhapsody
E (from Drukenmunky)(Saxaphone Feature)
Pretty Fly (for a white guy)
Popcorn
Word Up
Land of 1000 Dances (Where would stand tunes be without this song?)

There's too much of the off the shelf tunes in pep band literature. From listening to other college pep bands I see the trend has been to play transcribed radio hits which are mostly hip hop. People say there's not much substance to hip hop but when you have 30 second time outs it's a great way to fill in that short amount of time.

At UCI our set list is worked around the way bball games flow. We've got our usual pregame pieces which are the full charts. Between those the marketing department usually runs the sponsor ads. When the team comes out we do the UC fight song followed by the UCI fight song. Sometimes we do the National Anthem if there's no guest performer. Then it's game time where we cheer on the team until it's a time out where we play if there's no sponsor ads being run. Half time we play the full charts. Post game we play the fight song, Hail to California and then more full charts to close out the night.

In general like I said there's a lot of off the shelf pep band literature. It would be great if more bands got out of the usual charts and play stuff more modern. Also some nice reliable oldies are great too but I really hate the off the shelf stuff.

I forgot to mention the usual off the shelf stuff would be arrangements like jwpepper.com

But Obie, my dear...I disagree with you on the 76 Trombones...Marian the Librarian is SO much cooler.
Or anything with the barbershop quartet.
10000 points to anyone who can name all the artists or shows that these come from. haha. I don't even think I could do that. But 250 points for the artist who sings Albequerque. :D

I was thinking... when I said STAND TUNES, I means like pep songs the band plays to streghen the teams, the fans, etc. No need to list songs that sounds more like parade or field show music. Is it really worth play Maleguena in the stands, I was thinking??? Or that I'm sticking too much between "Art" and "Pop" music?

There actually is a heckaboss arrangement of Malaguena for pep band, drawn from the Blast! version of it. So it's an arrangement of an arrangement..but it's really good.

And when I think of stand tunes, I think of getting the crowd going.. and I have a feeling that a lot of this stuff does. And if it doesn't, there are band parents that would appreciate it anyway.

Centerfold (funny as... well you know.)
Land of 1000 Dances (classic)
Hey Song
Crazy Train (yes, the OSU version. go buckeyes!)
Too Little, Too Late (barenaked ladies)
Bohemian Rhapsody

and of course... the almighty...

...BLUES BROTHERS!!! (any song because they all rock)

...but any kind of more "today-ish" rock will work also!
