Smiling_Marcher wrote:Well I don't know about the whole number then A thingys. Leigh isn't used to that. But I do know that we are moving from strictly NCBA shows to some WBA shows with a couple of NCBA shows. I'm only bringing it up b/c a lot of people I know wanted leigh to try some WBA shows. Especially Allumni who were very excited about it.

P.S. could someone be so kind as to explain the 2A...3A...4A... ect. stuffs? It would be much appreciated since we will now be dealing with that stuff.
I can't speak for WBA or NCBA but I believe their classification scheme is similar to SCSBOA's. Perhaps someone can post the information for wBA and NCBA.

Here's SCSBOA's criteria, based on the total number of musicians (winds and percussion):

1A = Up to 40
2A = 41 - 60
3A = 61 - 90
4A = 91 - 120
5A = 121 - 150
6A = Over 150

I thought that a band, for instance having 40 members, could go into any division they wanted, like div. 6, but the div. 6 people can't move down divivsions

I graduated so I can't say for certain, but in june when everyone was signed up Saugus was almost certainly going to be 3A this year. Although if 2 or 3 people drop out at band camp (not likely) then they'll be a full size 2A band instead of a tiny 3A band.

Yellow Dart is correct.

The choice is left up to the discression of the director. He or she may elect to move up as many divisions as they wish. A band can not move down a division, and is not allowed to move to their default division once they have submitted an application out of their division.

We moved up to 6A this year. Kinda scary. My freshman year we were in 3A, then the next 4A, then 5A last year. Our director didn't wan't us to just stay in 5A and win, so we made the jump for a challenge. Don't know if we'll do as well as last year, but the experience should be amazing in itself.

WBA format for their divisions as follows

1A Less than 60
2A 61 to 80
3A 81 to 100
4A 101 to 140
5A 141 and larger

So how large is Leigh's Band?

5A would be my guess. Leigh's been 155-175 or so the past several years.

Early numbers (for Leigh) I heard for this season were around 180+, but that was from the previous director. I don't know if that has changed or not.
