For those of you who have started Summer band camp or at least phase one, what are your thoughts?

We havent started yet... but I like the second week better. Basics are meh.
We do start our "summer school" which is like weekly next week.
im kinda nervous about that because a lot of people are on vacation or doing drum corps.

Band Camp

Post by BlueStarMom » Mon Jun 28, 2004 12:45 pm

At JW North band camp is the 2nd two weeks of August. It gets really hot out there. This seems to be the same time chosen every year.

There are summer practices scheduled throught July for different sections of the overall band, i.e. percussion, band, colorguard to name a few.

We have band camp on the last 2 weeks of August, but before that, we have rehearsals on Wednesdays from 5:30-8:30. Right now, we're just going through marching basics and pep tunes, so nothing really big yet. Seeing how we started really early, we should start working on the show at the beginning of camp. By then, we'll also have everything else taken care of.

Our freshies are outstanding! :)

The thing about band camp is that you never remember how much work you have to do. You only remember what a great time you had, but that's why it's so cool. I love band camp, even if that means doing basics until I die. Our band camp is only a week long, but trust me, they find a way to jam EVERYTHING into it.

Hahahaha, and it's funny when you go back to school and everyone says "This one time at band camp" and everyone thinks the band people have gone crazy.

I love band camp (even though I have only been to one). Our school has really great instructors and our members are pretty cool which make it go right along.

I believe it is true that you remember all of the great times you experienced while attending it but you do also remember all of the drills and stuff you did. It is truly good fun. You meet new people who, more often than not, become friends that last throughout your high school career. If you are in band, this is the source of practically all of your memories.

I am a band nerd so this is my view on it. I would love to have band camp more often than just once a year (sometimes out of necessity, sometimes out of band withdrawls, especially during concert season).
