Savanna. I'd really like to go to Arcadia sometime, though.

Definitely Arcadia. The whole tournament all-around is probably the best tournament in all of California - amazing venues (both field and parade).

When I was in high school, strangely enough, I really enjoyed the old El Modena Field Tournament (first time I ever met John Hausey in person, even though I'm sure he doesn't remember the dork in the Pasadena HS Drum Major uniform shaking his hand). El Modena was sort of early in the season, and usually not that huge of a tournament, but in a reasonably good stadium and a place that I would end up 25 years later working about a mile from at the Fire Dept. Small world...Another show I REALLY loved going to as a spectator, band geek that I am, was the old Azusa Field Tournament, where it was held on a Tuesday night at Citrus College. Traditionally, it was the first show of the year, and all the bands that came out would have incomplete shows, with the old Open Class having Arcadia, Los Altos, Magnolia, Mater Dei, and Loara battling it out.

In recent years, I think some of the best shows are what I lovingly refer to as "the biggees", and hence, usually the best run. The old Magnolia/now Kennedy Show, Loara, Valencia, Chino, Mt. Carmel, Arcadia, and Savanna. I had the great pleasure to be the voice of the Thousand Oaks Tournament in their first 2 years, and had they stayed the course and were able to secure the dates they wanted from SCSBOA, I'm sure that show would have been a great tournament.

Actually as a band booster/mom, I like the BofA Las Vegas regional. However, since it was in Phoenix last year I would say I liked going to the SCSBOA championships. They were exciting. There were 10 outstanding marching units, with a diverse selection of shows and music. I know a few members of the unit that won the 5A title, and seeing their tears of joy spilled over onto their parents, family members, and many supporters.

Azusa !? Wow, that brings back fond memories. Perhaps Los Altos in Hacienda Heights. Chaffey's Tournament of Champions. Chino (because we won). Mt. Carmel - a class organization and event.

Least favorite: Mission Viejo.

I'm just glad that most of the events that I competed in during 1980-1982 still exist today. Given the amount of work required to make these competitions happen (I worked the Arcadia review/show 6 years), I'm gratified that these schools and cities still understand the value of their events.

I don't think I've ever been to Mission Viejo before.
No regrets

The problem with most places(high Schools) is the same..parking!! or lack there of!!!
Especially at the newer schools where IMHO parking was a last consideration, just for everday stuff let alone a big event!

I liked Costa Mesa Show only when its at Orange Coast College. WBA championships at Buchanan WOW what a nice high school stadium one of the best I have been to.
Truth is not a theory..

I liked the Glover Stadium (Savanna) cuz.. i dunno.. it was a really opened area. plus the fact that who doesn't like sitting in bleachers for like, 8 hours, then having it end in the rain!?!?! lol fun times

Has anyone ever practiced next to the building w/the reflective walls? (This is for those who've been to Glover Stadium.) You could watch yourself while you march!

My favorite field tournament was Chino... Maybe that's because that's the only one I've been to (and we didn't even march, we just watched)? lol The '03 season was my band's first season because we are a new school, so we didn't march field, just street. Maybe when this year's season is over (eew, I don't like saying when this year's season is over) I'll have a better perspective! :D
