Formermarcher,

You do not need to have a degree in MUED to be a music teacher. You just need a Bachelor's degree and a credential. If you are minoring in music, then you should have enough units to get either a supplemental credential in music, or get a full credential in music IN ADDITION TO your current degree objective.

One of the MOST productive and successful band directors I know DOES NOT have a music degree. His degree is in Economics, and his bands were pretty darn good... (minor understatement there)

With the "No Child Left Behind" act, I think having the degree is going to be mandatory for new hires.

Also, it is WAY the exception rather than the rule that successful teachers do not have the music ed degree. It's a bit insulting to those of us who completed the degree to imply that it is not "necessary" to being a successful teacher.

Now when you say Bachelor's degree, do you mean a BA or a BS in ANY area, or one specified for music...because if so, then a minor would not work (for obvious reasons).

Hey! [UCI]-Mike

I got permission to the Director/Staff forum. I work with 2 local school as a instructor. So I was able to get access to the forum. Start teaching as a instructor and email the mod for that section.

:D 8-)
