Here's my take on Etiwanda's season. . .
I saw their show twice this year and was amazed at how visaully clean they were. The tarps on the field and drums stands up front made the general effect that much sweeter. The colorguard was ok, not exactly up-to-par with the rest of the band and that's where I saw them lacking most. Musically, I didn't feel any climax, it was monotone throughout the show IMO. The music was rhythmically challenging yes, but it lacked emotion and I think you only get that from music with a bit of melody. I liked the show because it was different/something new and I thought they were the best field band overall at SCSBOA championships, general effect and visual-wise, but musically El Dorado, RB, and Arcadia were better.
Etiwanda's 2003 season can be capped with an exclamation point. They won BOA in Phoenix, they beat the WBA heavyweights (and possibly could've taken WBA Championships), and they won SCSBOA Championships. My only disappointment with them was when they were signed up for Arcadia to compete in parade in addition to the field show, but bailed out for the WBA Trabuco Hills show at the last minute. It's a shame because me and many others felt them competing in parade in addition to field would show that they were one of the elite, well-rounded California programs (i.e. El Dorado, Rancho Bernardo, Arcadia, Mount Carmel, Rancho Buena Vista, Diamond Bar, Vista, Foothill, etc.). Apparently they chose to take the field-only route and I think that made a world of a difference in their season. I also didn't think it was appropriate for Etiwanda to show up to SCSBOA Championships seeing that all the bands there who competed in the 6A class also not only competed in parade throughout the season, but against each other. What other SCSBOA tournaments did Etiwanda compete in against the aforementioned bands? It's also a respect/courtesy thing. Yes, there are nothing in the rules that say because you only focused on field this season, you can't compete. But like I said out of respect to the bands that did compete against each other all season, for one band to just come in out of nowhere and take home the big enchilada was not very respectful of a classy program.

well, they opted out of arcadia due to the california wildfires, which were about a mile away from their campus, and so they were not able to rehearse for about two weeks, just to let you know. if anything was last minute, it wasn't bailing arcadia, it was signing for trabuco hills.

Parade?Field
Being in a parade and a field tournament doesn't give you the criteria to be the best. It is what you do and how well you do what you do that makes the difference. They did compete I believe they competed back last year at Arcadia and did very well second in overall and won the field tornament. They also won the parade and field tornament at Fiesta Bowl and competed with some very fine parade bands from across the country. Broken Arrow is one of the best parade bands in the country as well as field champion 12 times in Oklahoma. Eitwanda's other music programs are outstanding as well and they do work extemely hard to stay a top of the field even if you don't like their presentation. There is much more to their musical performance this year than just long extending melodies that everyone sings to or knows. Musical performance is your expression of what the music is about and that is what makes it a good performance along with the compatibility with the rest of your show. that is why they are so good with the off the wall musical melodic lines. There was a melody that was presented in the first movement that was carried throughiut the performance if one listened very carefully. Veteran

This has certainly turned out to be one of the LAMEST threads ever in the history of WOP. It's about as bad as reading something from Timothy Lee...
Let's move on...Etiwanda was great.

Re: Etiwanda!!!!!!!!!!
Dude i love your band. I was supprised at championsips that we got so close as we did i thought you guys were going to smoke us. Lets not even start with the drumline either dude. There were times where they looked like a drumcorps drumline. omg you guys were awesome and i would lose to you guys anyday. Especially after having no school for 2 weeks and coming back and rocking everyone's but off. I would enjoy beating you guys too though. That would be a trip. Our drumline's goal is to beat your score. I don't care what anyone says either i loved the show in everyway. It was b****in. Tell everyone to keep up the awesome work and i cant wait to see you guys next year.bigboreracer89 wrote:We work hard for what we do and we are proud [/url]

Well not to rag on anyones Show or Group, but Etiwanda's drumline is not all that. Now I know that some people have put Etiwanda's drumline to a Drumcorp line and well that is saying a little to much. They are good but come on not that good. And good to me is Marching Great and Playing Great. Etiwanda does have the playing leval down to a te but Marching come on you Bassline is not the cleanest. Now dont take me wrong you guys are a very well buit line and have very good insturctors but to much credit it is bad credit. At champinchips you guys had a great show all around not just percussion and I comend you on that so to put this all in one statement. You guys are good and that is it good.

ya i was like u've got to be kidding me! A 98! but whatever... we aren't judges. and the way the championship schedule was that like the really good bads and not so good ones were mixed up so like if the good schools went first and the not as good schools went later then it would be like etiwanda would look that much more better than the school that went before them. i hope that made sense

did u hear what happened in mexico today??
2 cars crashed and 500 ppl died!!

Well ok a 98 is very good but I think everyone needs to agree with me that a 98 is a little to high. I'm not saying that they may not have desevered it but you know. And Rancho Bernardo went what 3rd and man chino went 2nd to me thoses 3 are the top drumlines there......RB, Chino, And Etiwanda (in no order) so what ever. A 98 is what they got and congrads for them. And we cant leave out Arcadia with there kick Ass Bassline. So we will see this year its all coming out. so Good luck Etiwanda I think yoiu might need it........( in a competitive type of a way)
