Canyon Show 12/6 Stadium Change
The Canyon HS Invitational (Scheduled for December 6th, 2003) hosted by the Canyon HS Band (Anaheim Hills) has had to change their SITE LOCATION ... the show will now be held at TUSTIN HS STADIUM 1171 El Camino Real in Tustin CA....
INFORMATION PHONES: Band 714-283-5299
WOP 714- 952-2263
The emergency change came about when the Orange School District took Kelly Stadium away from the Canyon HS Band (Which had reserved it a long time ago) to allow for a CIF Football Game.... We will be adding more to this posting as the day progresses...
The question remains ... Are Student Athletes, more important than student Artists and Musicians?.... It would seem so in the Orange Unified School District .... This major location change will allow the show to be staged.. but has taken it out of the community Canyon HS is located in.. and moved it further from the Canyon boosters and band fans.....
We encourage Orange District Band Boosters and Fans to let the district know of their dissappointment.... The District will have it's monthly school board meeting on December 9th....
Here is the Lineup and performance Schedule

Simply ridiculous.
This had been scheduled at least weeks and weeks in advance, only to be changed due to an on the instant game.
Did the hosts of this tournment not put up a fight, or was it a mandate?

'official Press Release!!!
This press release was issued by Gloria Duncan.. spokesperson for the Orange Unified School District and Superintendant Charles French....
For Immediate Release:
This Saturday, December 6th, will see the 7th annual Canyon Classic Field Tournament sponsored by the Canyon High School Comanche Golden Warrior Regiment. This spectacular event will feature fourteen high school bands with a total of over 400 students from southern California in head to head competition. Each band will vie for the coveted position of “Tournament Champion”. Each band, which really consists of wind, percussion, and pageantry units, will present musical compositions to which they will add movement and color. Often the shows, which last from 7 to 11 minutes in duration, will portray some theme. “The bands play and march to music which is highly diverse,” says Harold Witten, the band director at Canyon High School and tournament director. “There will be shows which run the gamut of musical styles from Rock and Roll, broadway musicals, jazz, up to and including classical music. Our own show is based on ‘Carmina Burana’ an opera by Carl Orff. If you think opera can’t be exciting, you have got to see and hear this!
Due to a CIF playoff game for football, the original location of the tournament has been moved. Originally, the contest was to be held in Kelly Stadium in Orange. However, the event has been relocated to the stadium at Tustin High School. Tustin High School is located at 1711 El Camino Real in Tustin. The first competitor steps onto the field at 10:45 a.m. with awards to be presented at 3:15 p.m. With tickets only $6, it’s a real bargain for a day of pure excitement
