Simply congratulating a band on a great performance is sportsmanship.
Walking up to a school that scored higher than you and congratulating them is good sportsmanship.

Making fun of another group...putting groups down...talking about them...that is not good sportsmanship.
Saying your band is the best ever in an obnoxious way just because you guys won...thats not good sportsmanship.

the most "sportsman"-like thing I see at band tournaments is when bands tell each other "good luck" when they march by, even when they know they can't respond at attention. Also, when bands tell each other "good job" or "good show" when you know they haven't seen the show! I find it hilarious, but greatly encouragin when you're the ones getting the compliment.

Since Rancho Buena Vista HS and Vista HS bands are sister schools, we make things for each other. Like pins that say good luck or whatnot. It's really encouraging.

Like for the VIFT, they made us "tulip-looking" flowers of candy. It was really awesome.

I would like to give props to the William S. Hart High School band for thier extraordinary sportsmanship, in fact, many of the band kids have been posting to on the Westlake High School forums, and even with the fact that we are both top 3A bands, there has been NO insults, mean comments, or anything of the sort.

Go Hart! You guys rule!

(PS, I am from Westlake High School)
