Does anyone have:

1. The list of judges from both parade and field competitions?
2. Recap sheets for parade and field that they would be willing to share?

I just want to compare a few numbers...

Many numbers at Pacific Grove this weekend were REALLY low...
There were a few groups who improved greatly over their performances two weeks ago at Del Oro, yet their scores were significantly lower: 2-4 points lower for some...

If you can help me out, that would be great...

Oh, last thing:
Who is Mike Yambrovich? I had never heard of him, then all of a sudden, he's been a judge at the last two competitions we've attended. Any info would be great. Thanks.

This has been discussed in a previous post or two, but I'll try to briefly recap those discussions.

Firstly, don't get hung up on the numbers or wonder why scores fluctuate so widely between NCBA shows because you'll drive yourself crazy. There are no definitive reasons, but it mostly boils down to the NCBA scoring method which focuses on the correct placement or ranking of each band at individual shows. The actual numbers awarded don't mean a whole lot, and you certainly can not compare scores given at different venues. It's fairly common for a band to receive a lower score at a show near end of the season than one given at an early competition, even if that band has shown obvious and significant improvement. The numbers also do not necessarily represent a realistic account of the difference in quality between bands, especially at the top. Rankings are the only marginally comparable numbers between separate NCBA competitions.

Scores

Post by JCYS » Tue Nov 04, 2003 11:28 am

Ditto to what Khan said.

However, it was already noted that Del Oro and Santa Cruz scores were high.

Are you speaking of parade or field? I thought the scores at PG were pretty comparable to Newman last week, from what I saw.

Hey dude that's awesome. You wouldn't happen to be in the Benicia marching band would you? That would be cool if someone from our rival band liked us. We are all fond of Benicia and I want to say that Benicia is hecka tight!!!!

We work really hard to get cool marches that no one has heard before and I'm glad to hear someone recognizes us.

Too cool.....
LP/O Rocks!!!!!! Oh yes, we are, superior by far!!!!!

I really like LPO's balance. I watched you guys at TOC and thought that your music was very well-played. Your trio was really soothing, and had a great amount of shaping and musicality. Just because we compete doesn't mean we have to not like eachother. I have a great deal of respect for LPO, Golden Valley, and all other "rival" schools

Cool

Hey, you know, that's really cool, thanks. We've been trying to perfect our trio because it's been hard to keep the tubas and tbones from breathing at the same time and cutting off frazes. It makes it sound choppy and we used to not have any cres. in it. Our BD had to put some in. I'm glad you like it. I didn't get a good chance to see you guys play this year we were always behind you. I hope that you all had a good season and I'm glad to have talked to you. Benicia is really good and I'm glad we can all get along.
