I don't think you can compare these at all.

They are two different styles, and I would appreciate that no one posted here.
If you must post however, post cautiously. This is easily turned into something that we won't like.

I repeat...

You cannot compare the two circuits. They are totally different, and as already said, we do *not* need another thread on this. If you search back for the older version of the thread, you can find what you want there.

Please try not to post on this...we really don't need nor want it.

this is exactly what I meant. i do not wish to find out which you think is better, I just don't knwo the differences. If you don't want it posted here where everyone can see, then please PM me, because honestly, I'm just curious...I have no clue what a WBA competition is like. I don't want to start an arguement between the two groups. I only wish to distinguish the difference, you know? Thanx. 8-)

Go to their web sites and read their manuals it explains what they do, how they score and the organizations philosophy on music.

I think that the circuits are different. However, I dont think that they are so different that they cant even be compared. I know that WBA has a higher emphasis on guard. There are judgs on he field in WBA shows. The judges also look foe high, fast and loud. SCSBOA puts a larger emphasis on music and quality of sound. (My opinion- debate it if you wish.) The circuits are not so different that they can't be compared, because if they were, bands like ayala, upland and etiwanda who did well in both circuits this year, wouldn't be able to be consistent in both circuits.

WBA

"SCORING
• Each band will receive a score based on a total possible 100 points computed to the nearest tenth of a point.
The score will be the total of the scores given by each of eight adjudicators less any penalty points.
The calculation of the total score for each caption is:
(30 points) The average of: 30 Points - Music Effect
30 Points - Visual Effect

(30 points) The average of: 30 Points - Music Performance - Ensemble
30 Points - Music Performance - Individual

(20 points) The average of: 20 Points - Visual Performance - Ensemble
20 Points - Visual Performance - Individual

(10 points) The total of: 10 Points - Percussion

(10 points) The total of: 10 Points -Auxiliary
(100 points Total)

The percentage of the total score for each caption is:
Music Effect 15%
Visual Effect 15%
Music Performance - Ensemble 15%
Music Performance - Individual 15%
Percussion 10%
Visual Performance - Ensemble 10%
Visual Performance - Individual 10%
Auxiliary 10%
• All scoring will be done on a build-up, achievement basis, utilizing an educationally oriented, criteria referenced scale for each caption and category. Scoring is assigned based upon the upper 60 percent of the total value of each sheet.

• Scoring in the Percussion and Auxiliary categories will be done by a single adjudicator in each category. Each of these categories will be scored based on a total of 100 points, computed to the nearest tenth of a point. Scoring in these categories are included in the scoring or placement of the band as a whole. Judging focus in these two captions will be to assist these sections in such a way as to augment the success of the total band program."

BOA

"It is the position of Bands of America that music is the more important aspect of the Performance, with marching as the presentation and visual enhancement of the program. Similarly, more emphasis has been placed on the effectiveness to the audience and to general effect judges, than on fine-line perfection of the performance judges - which may be an aspect to work on for even better effectiveness. Consequently, the weight of the numbers in the Bands of America scoring system places 60% of the value on music and 40% on visual, and at the same time, 60% of the score is within the area of general effect and 40% within the Performance Area. The point allotment for the field competition is as follows:

20 points* Music Performance (Individual)
20 points* Music Performance (Ensemble)
20 points* Visual Performance (Individual)
20 points* Visual Performance (Ensemble)
20 points Visual General Effect
40 points Music General Effect
Timing & Penalties Judge
*Averaged"

This is directly quoted from their manuals.

Could not find my sheets for SCSBOA if anyone wants to post go for it. This is intended as to explain the differences not which is better I dont want to go down that road as I know many others do not as well so keep it to just provide information.

Happy Turkey Day :D :D
