questions for the woodwind folks of WOP

This discussion is aimed more towards the woodwinds of this group (clarinets, fultes, oboes, bassoonists, saxes, etc...)

Just a couple questions I'm interested in getting into a discussion with. Not for argumentive purposes (as I am a woodwind player myself), but for imformative purposes as I would like to get a better feel of the So. CA market.

So, some questions:

1. Do you know, or have you ever seen a live performance of drum & bugle corps? If so, where? why or how?

2. Have you ever said to yourself, "gee, wish I could do that, but I'm a woodwind"?

3. If you have taken interest, has anyone told you that you cannot participate because you are a woodwind?

4. If you had the opportunity to learn a new instrument (whether brass or percussion), would you take the opportunity?

5. Do you maybe feel that if you do pick up a second instrument that the quality in your playing a woodwind instrument would decline?

Again, I'm just looking for information. I may ask counter quetsions... but we'll see.

I guess I'll be the first to answer this questionnaire:

1. Do you know, or have you ever seen a live performance of drum & bugle corps? If so, where? why or how? I know and have seen drum & bugle corps, but never live. I'll catch them next summer at a local show.

2. Have you ever said to yourself, "gee, wish I could do that, but I'm a woodwind"? Thousands of times!

3. If you have taken interest, has anyone told you that you cannot participate because you are a woodwind? It's not that I'm a woodwind; it's that I'm not a brass or percussionist.

4. If you had the opportunity to learn a new instrument (whether brass or percussion), would you take the opportunity? Of course! I would love to learn something new.

5. Do you maybe feel that if you do pick up a second instrument that the quality in your playing a woodwind instrument would decline? It's a possibility, but I doubt it.

Not live... on video tapes all the time. Our assistant director is crazy about them.

2. Have you ever said to yourself, "gee, wish I could do that, but I'm a woodwind"?
:-( Yes.

3. If you have taken interest, has anyone told you that you cannot participate because you are a woodwind?
basically same as above... I don't play trumpet or snare, and at the time being, no one, nor I am making an effort to learn.

4. If you had the opportunity to learn a new instrument (whether brass or percussion), would you take the opportunity?
Yeah... Its always fun to learn something new.

5. Do you maybe feel that if you do pick up a second instrument that the quality in your playing a woodwind instrument would decline?
Actually, I think I would get better. say I started playing snare, then I would have more rhythmic percision in my head, right?

Question from me: Where are you going with this?
