Captions (from what I can remember -- It's been a long weekend, we just got home, and my brain is not firing on all cylinders).

Percussion -- Mission
Visual -- Ayala
Auxillary -- Beyer
Music -- Upland
GE -- I think Mission

If I goofed on any of these, someone feel free to correct my error.

it's right.

Scores for top 5

Mission 94.11 margin was .84 over 2nd
Clovis W 93.27 margin was .22 over 3rd
Ayala 93.05 Margin was 1.27 over 4th
Upland 91.78 Margin was .03 over 5th
Beyer 91.75

Top AAA finisher 6th place
El Toro 86.46

The venue was awesome great place for a competition.
The weather was COLD to very COLD.
The competion was great
The bands were great
But

and dont go off flaming me

The scores were a big suprise! Seems like a few of judges were watching totally different performances.

Upland got music but still ended up in 4th place? I thought music caption would have meant more weight towards total score? :?:

Ayala Guard was 4th? off 6 points from Prelims

My picks were

Clovis West - Fantastic musically great show! Sound was very cool

Ayala - Finally you put it all together. Tough Drill good job

Mission - What a improvement over the past few weeks! The show looked more complete than ever. Congrats

But thats just a observer in the stands no experience in judging or music just my opinion...
Truth is not a theory..

Wow, congratulations to MV for taking the top prize, and with the diversity of caption awards, it looked like the shows were up to the challenge.

Wished I was there.

I would like to say GOOD JOB to all the bands at WBA championships, especially in the AAAA division! Congrats to Mission Viejo! In addition, I gotta say, WOW for Clovis West. They were the only band we were able to watch from the stands during finals, and i was definitely wowed by their music and especially their marching. It looked really clean, and there was a really impressive drill move toward the end of the show that was reeeeally cool. I also have to say that the Ayala people are really nice and welcoming. During the time in between prelims and finals, me and a few others from Upland decided to go socialize with people from Ayala, some of them we had already previously met. The people we talked to were very nice and hilarious, so I just thought that I'd compliment them for being so cool! Again, congrats to all the bands. It was a great weekend!

ayala got 3rd?

Post by teddy graham » Sun Nov 23, 2003 6:13 pm

I was at championshipes this weekend at Buchanon. My band didnt make finals and I am a senior. So we stayed to watch the finals performance. I could not believe how beautiful ayala's show was.It was practically perfect!!! They sounded awesome and the drill was phenomenal. Their colorguard was incredible. It was such a clean show and the girls performed their asses off. I couldn't believe beyer's guard won. They didn't have as clean of a show as ayala. When it came around to awards, i thought for sure ayala would win. When I hear in 3rd place ayala, i was ready to go take the microphone and say thats not possible. :x !!!!! I looked at the recaps and my friend showed me ayala's guard caption. They got 4th!!!!! There is no way that mission and rancho cuc were better than them. In prelims their guard got a 92.00. At finals the judge gave them an 86.00. Someone told me that there is no possible way the guard could get an 86.00. Thats what they got at their first or second show. That judge should never be allowed to judge again. How do u drop a guard 6 points from prelims to finals. I heard the guard had an even better show at finals thean prelims. That caption was rigged and that judge should feel very stupid for doing that. The band had the best show their!!! To me mission's show is not very impressive and its kind of boring. I can't believe that they won. Clovis in my opinion was better than mission. My father is a director and knows a lot about this stuff and he said that ayala was the best band their. You can fight me on this as much as you want, but deep down i truely believe that guard should have won and band should have won. Some day when the ayala drumline puts their finals show on the website, maybe u guys should watch. Then maybe you will believe that they were the best band. Ayala u guys r the best and up here we know that. Great job and I hope you are as thrilled about your performnace as i was.It was all politics ayala. U r number 1!!!!!!

Thank you everyone who supported Ayala, it really means a lot to us, but let the blames die down, and congratulate Mission, and Clovis for outtanding performances too. For Ayala, 3rd is wonderful. Judges are all qualified and highly skilled people, they should have the common knowledge to fairly score all bands they see. Congratulations to everyone in championships, but again, the real winner is Mission, remember, not Ayala....(but trust me, that was hard to say...)

Yeeeeeaahhh. Get ready for a hell of a fight next year!!!!!

I agree

I completely agree with what you are saying. I am in another 4a band that was in finals and have previously beaten MV and i dont believe that they should have beaten ayala or clavis west.

Congrats on having such a great finals performance. Thank you for doing your absolute best. Too bad it's being spoiled by your arrogant and uniformed opinions on this public forum.

How dare you make a statement that you work harder than the rest of your competition, little alone assume that to be the case. And by the way, you 'did really say'. How foolish of you to think that you were the only program to work in the heat and the cold - you know, we all kinda live in the same region and deal with very similar elements on a daily basis. Think outside your bubble.

I'm extremely proud of Ayala's accomplishments this year, and thrilled to once again be in the top 3 in WBA - it's too bad you can't realize how truly great it is to be third.

Regardless of how hard you worked there were literally thousands of students just like yourself who were not able to realize the thrill of performing as well as Ayala did, or placing as highly as Ayala did - don't forget how lucky and privileged you are.

teddy graham:

Thanks for all the complements about Ayala. We are thrilled that you enjoyed the show - we worked very hard this year so that we would make people feel just the way you did after our finals performance.

That being said, please don't come on this public forum and talk about what should have been. If you want to profess your personal opinion or preference that's one thing, but to say that the professionals making the hard adjudicational (new word) decisions that night were wrong is just not cool. We all play by the same rules, and we all do our best to perform and place well. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, and that's just how life is. It has to be ok with all of us to not always win, and if it's not then we aren't doing this for the right reasons. We put our trust in the adjudicators to make the decisions - sometimes it's not what we want, but the alternative is not to compete, and none of us want that. The system is imperfect, but then again everything in life is, including the performances.

I hope you agree.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Congrats to Mission and Clovis West specifically, because it seems not to be said enough on this forum right now, and congrats to all the others who put in so much work this year to make the 2003 WBA Championships such a great day of performance and competition - we get better at this thing every year. See you in 2004.
