I believe there was something earlier this year stating that BOA was no longer going to list the placements of the finalist, and instead only state who is the Grand National Champion. I believe the reason being is that they want to stress more the pleasure of being a finalist, then being the 7th place band.

I'm sure someone who was there can correct me if I'm wrong.

Congratulations Westfield HS!

BOA will be releasing placements of the finalist bands on December 18th at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, Im sure they will also have them on their website at that time.

I think you are correct--which is probably one of the DUMBEST things I've ever heard about BOA yet. But oh well...I guess that's why I'm not the ruler of the marching band world, eh?

How about the opening statement for Ronald Regan HS...Very Cool. BOA as a whole continues to impress from a conceptual standpoint...year in and year out, they continue to bring new and fresh ideas to the circuit.

I still find it to be amazing how the Texas bands can be as efficient as they are with an 8hr/week rehearsal limitation (as sanctioned by the UIL, I believe)...

Can anyone shed some light on this???

Yeah, what's the story with that? BOA needs to hook up with Tom Blair, and the DCI crew, and start charging 20 bucks less... They'd probably sell a whole lot more.

118 dollars??? Comon!!!

I'd spend that much just for Ronald Reagan and Avon, oh man, Reagan's show is just soo awesome. Bunch of classics just thrown in, and that intro is just awesome, and the sax soloist the music is beautiful, everything!

and Avon did October, awesome awesome song.....

plus you'd get 10 other bands :)

How do you guys think Etiwanda would have faired if they went to GN's?

Questions About the 8 Hour Rule.

The Best Way to explain the reaon our Bands do so well. even with the 8 hour rule is very simple.
Practice during Class Period Band & gym does not count against the 8 hours. This gives you 10 hours a week to work with. when you add another 8 hours
that gives the Band Director 18 hours a week to work with. You might want to go to the UIL Web Page and read about the 8 hour rule.

I think the big advantage Texas Bands have is that Band is a School Class. Their is no such thing as a non-credit extra curricular Band in Texas. The 8 hour rule was put in to stop Bands from taking kids away from other activities. Most of our Directors do not have a problem with 18 hours a week, since we use PE Class as Part of Marching Band during the Fall.

Plus private lesson do not count against the time limit. Interestingly, Texas Bands are very diigent in obeying this rule, because other Bands have no problems with turning an offender in. especially if they are your rival.
