Re: BOA Grand Nationals lineup (3 CA bands)
Well, one of those CA bands is a Regional Champion, now--Clovis West. I have no doubt they will do well at GN. Ayala and Vista Murrieta, too, are going to be great competitors.
No Georgia bands this year? Georgia is a weird place for high school bands. They either show up big and strong, or neglect to show up. (Travel is a factor, no doubt...but I would expect at least Kennesaw or Harrison?)
Lots of TX bands. I think you can gauge how hard it will make finals based on the "Texas effect." (More Texas bands = harder to make the top 12.)

Re: BOA Grand Nationals lineup (3 CA bands)
There are going to be some really, really, REALLY good bands not making Finals. I see a full twenty bands in the line-up that could win most BOA Regionals.

There could be some regional champion bands not making semi-finals, either. Wouldn't be the first time that has happened.Hostrauser wrote:

Re: BOA Grand Nationals lineup (3 CA bands)
In regard to the TX Bands, we would have had more, however the San Antonio Region is on 4 &5 Nov, UIL 6A Contest is the 8th of Nov and several of the Bands from the Dallas area who will be going to both the Super regional and UIL SMC could not justify any more overnights. None of the Bands going to Grand Nationals with the exception of Whitesboro are spending an away night. Reagan, CTJ, Bowie, Cedar Park,Etc are all from the Austin-San Antonio region and can stay home at night and bus to the events in the AM. That sure saves a lot of costs. Also the schools are not happy about many nights being away from schools.
Besides TX, beware of Union out of OK. They are the NO. 2 Band in OK and this fall destroyed, the Top Bands of MO, KS, NE and O'Fallon from IL in the Golden Regiment Invitational in Blue Springs, MO . Also note that Owasso and Jenks will both be there, along With Mustang, an up and coming Band that did not go to St. Louis due to their hosting the OBA 4A& 5A Marching contest last Saturday.
Lafayette, LA, the top Band from Cajun Land will be coming off a probable win on Saturday in the LA Showcase Classic at Lafayette. This is the unofficial LA State Championships.
AR will be represented by Paragould, their top Band which is very good, however their size will probably preclude them from advancing to Finals.
Broken Arrow is going to March Down Colorado Blvd on New Years Day, so they have decided to pass on this contest. But there are plenty of fne Bands there.
