Wildbill,

Yes, I will be providing a review as soon as possible. My notebook got soaked for some of the performances (Torrance, Newbury Park, Upland, Mission Viejo, Ayala, Poway). Nevertheless, I did jot down "my score," and I will put my mind in motion use for the shows I did not write about.

4A Weather Report!

It began to rain during the last about 1/3 of Etiwanda's performance.
The rain continued (btw I would not say it ever "poured" as was suggested in an earlier post) at the same pace until about 1/3 into Uplands performance, then it turned into a light drizzle.
The rain stopped as Upland was exiting and it stayed dry until about 1 min into Mission Viejo's performance and it began to rain again but not quite as hard as earlier and it only lasted a couple of minutes again turning into a light drizzle and then stopped again towards the end of their show.
It stayed dry with maybe a light drizzle for most of Ayala's show, then it got a little harder about 2/3's into their performance stopping by the end of the show.
I would say Poway was mostly dry as well as Fountain Valley.

Conlusion: Upland got the most rain followed by Etiwanda then Mission Viejo, Ayala and Poway.
I know this because I was trying to video tape the 4A performances and I had to keep covering the camera.

Upland did get a lot of rain, but it was raining a lot harder during the end of 1A and the beginning of 2A. That's probably what the other person was referrig to by pouring, it got bad enough that at one point we had to stop and were half an hour behind but made up some of the time later.

Slip and Slide..

I did perform on the field and thought it was quite fun. While it was not raining during most of Etiwanda's show, it did begin raining about 2/3 into it. The field did become quite wet and very slick because the field did not have a great amount of grass on it due to wear from the football season I'm assuming. I'm in the guard and our instructor had us under a tree in the stadium so we did get to watch all the bands in our class prior to performing. I must say it was probably raining the hardest at the beggining of Uplands show but they still sounded amazing. The rain lightened up during Mission's show and started raining big drops and lots of them when Ayala was prestaging... I consider that pouring but everyone's entitled to their "opinion". The rain almost seemed to mimick the mood of the music selections. During the beginning of the opener, it was a light rain, then it got harder towards the end of the opener. The ballad was full of big hard drops but not a heavy downpour. The closer, it started getting harder and harder. I found this amusing. Rolling around as we were supposed to because of our work, was fun. There were a lot of people slipping and a few guard members fell. I used to figure skate and I remember doing some training in shoes on ice and the field felt somewhat similar to that feeling. I think under the conditions, it didn't matter who scored what but it was more of a show for experience. I think that the conditions may have affected scoring but not placing. If that makes any sense. I think the judges know what to do in order to accurately place bands that were performing under different conditions. Every school out there did their best and I think that the placing shows that. I'm constantly impressed by the great competition, it just shows that there are great bands out there. Congratulations to Etiwanda and Mission, you guys were awesome.

Great. I always look forward to your reviews. How do you think the weather impacted the performances?[/quote]

Actully, this is what I was referring to:
It was cold and wet. Upland went on during a huge downpour.
I stayed through the awards. as many of us did, and while I was more than damp I never got soaked as a "downpour" would imply....

And yes, I did hear that the earlier rain was much more of an event!!!
But the rain is over (for now) and the tourny was great!!

by its all about the guard
it was my first time watching a tournament from up the stage and it was just amazing. i saw the second half of the 3a bands and most of 4a, and i give the colorguard a round of applause for the great performances despite the rain.. wet silks and wet weapons can be a toughie! the performances were sure worth sitting through the rain! (and getting sick!)

the worst part of the rain was having to pick up trash in it becuase all the napkins were soggy and gross. the cardboard boxes were wet too. not too much fun but it got done fairly quickly then we got to go home.

i did not ming performing in the rain, it was actually kind of cool. however the feild was another story. anytime i was required to jazzrun i had to really fight to keep from falling. and the feild was pretty torn up by our show. however it was an expeirience. what dosent kill you only makes you stronger and i believe we will be better prepared for the next wet comp.

Good for you because many of us on the field were really wet. And I saw upland parents coming off the field dripping with water. So maybe it didnt seem as heavy in the stands?
