Chino, at least when I went there, said "One" on the street, and made a short hissing noise when on the field. I know they still do that.

At Riverside Poly, the director yells, Band Ten Hut, then we all yell, PROUD! (Since we are the Proud Heritage Band and Colorguard)

Our DM calls "Band Atten HUT"
...and we reply with a "ONE"
Pretty normal I think. It sounds cool though.

i like to think one of our bands best things is our call to attentions, before all field shows and parades the drum major, or on field shows the tuba section leader which this year is me :) calls the band with " CORPS TEN-HUT" because we are the mayfair marching corps, the band then responds with a very loud "HUT!" it sounds awesome in stadiums, and i think it intemidates the other bands.

The Cypress Band yells "Pride".

At any rate, while this may be effective on the street, most bands make the mistake of doing this on the field after the "judges are ready" announcement, and then make everyone wait before any music is heard. I think I've heard every GE judge I've ever sat by comment on the ineffectiveness of the continuity gap created in doing so. A more effective hype may be to do so at the 1 minute announcement, before the announcer starts all the "Blah, blah blah" about the show.

As far as I know (would someone please correct me if I'm wrong) it does make a difference in the drum major's score...
what the band yells or doesnt yell has nothing to do with the drum majors score. the only people being judged when the band is doing commands is the guard if they are in front of the band and the drum major. yes the drum major calling the commands is part of the score sheet for the drum major though.

rbv yells hit...i think its kinda boring, but id prefer that over anything else...hit seems like it'd be the easiest.

For the past two years, we've said "HUT!" after being called to attention. Before Mr.L we were silent. I like having a response better. It gets the band geared up and can impress the crowd before a note is played or a step taken. It's pretty awesome.
