102 Degrees outside. A typical start for the Marching Season
Monday the 1st of Aug started Marching Season for 1400 TX HS Bands and 600 Football Teams.(The football teams who had spring football practice cannot start working out until the 8th of Aug). The usual TX summer weather has not slowed down Band practice. Most schools are out in the morning on the field, back in the Band Hall in the afternoon and then out again at 7 at night. Until a couple of years ago, this was the first date the Band got to work on their show music. However several years ago, some of the bigger schools convinced the education system, that during summer Band Classes(Thats right, three days a week since the end of school) music for the upcoming marching season could be practiced during the summer. The Band could not go out on the field for drill. I guess everyone just wants to be prepared for the 25th and 26th of Aug when the first games take place, and the first time the shows are presented. And this starts the carousel that does not end until the SMC on 7 and 8 Nov. What a blessing to be retired
