The Coast Guard is starting a new Auxiliary musician program.
If you would like to join the Coast Guard Auxiliary you must be a US Citizen and be over 17. At this time we are looking to form a Concert/Marching band. The first parade will be the Armed Forces Day parade in Torrance.
We will practice at the Coast Guard Base in San Pedro.

You do not have to go to boot camp or enlist to be in the Auxiliary.

It is a great opportunity. It is a chance to create something great. We will play for change of commands, military funerals and at VA hospitals. It is a chance to serve your country as a musician.
There are benefits other than getting to wear the Coast Guard uniform.
If you were in the military its a chance to serve again. If you were never in the military this is a chance to serve. You don't enlist and you don't have to go to boot camp.

When do you think the band will start up?

Our first performance scheduled is NTRAIN August 2016. We will be combing with the Arizona band.
We have 19 in the flotilla so far with more joining. Most of the current members are professional musicians who are doing small performances at memorials and retirement ceremonies.
I am working on the concert/marching band.
We want to do the Armed Forces Day parade in Torrance and concerts in the park during the summer. During the Ball season we want to supply orchestras for all the services, so they can have a ball with music and dancing.

Are legal residents allowed, or does the restriction stand for citizens only?

To be in the Auxiliary you need to:
Be a U.S. Citizen
Be over 17 years of age
Clear a background check

To enlist you can be a resident. Anyone authorized to wear the uniform can join our band.
We will also need support staff you can come on base as a guest but you cant be a member unless you are a citizen.

They are already starting to shut down the military bands. This is a chance to serve your country and be a founding member of the California Coast Guard Auxiliary Band. If you have graduated high school and are not going to a college band here is a chance to keep playing.
