Tonight Sep 4th the Killeen and Round Rock HS Teams met on the football field. Neither will win the state championship in football. However one clear winner was crowned at Halftime. The Killeen Band numbers about 90 musicians and with Drill Team and Guard fields about 120 members. The Band was in the stands when the 11 Busses carrying the Round Rock Dragon Band arrived.
Round Rock formed up and since the game had already stared before they arrived(love 7PM weekday games) They prepared for half time first.

The Dragon Band enters the field with a marching strength of over 320 members, excluding their drill team. What is impressive about this outfit is the prototypical Texas Brass Section. RR marched in Brass as follows:
Trombones 26
Baritones 14
Tubas 18
Trumpets 31
Flugels 14.

The RR announcer told the crowd that they were watching the number 4 Band in the nation enrouote to the Tournament of Roses on New Years Day in Pasadena. The announcer advised this trip would take the Band to BOA in Austin and San Antonio and UIL Area and State Championships.(The announcer forgot to mention that the Woodlands had beaten RR in Indianapolis)

The Band has chose "Arabian Nights" by Goldsmith for their contest show. It is almost totally complete at this time. It is an extremely well done performance for so early in the year. The Band announcer also rubbed in the fact that this show would be performed for the final time in Pasadena at Band Fest.

I do not have a clue how this Band will do on the street, however from what I observed tonight their might be several more trophies to add to their collection on their enroute travels.
