2013 NCBA Tournament of Champions
Parade Rankings
Fairfield High School
Fairfield, California
November 16th, 2013

Congratulations to all participating units last Saturday. There were some excellent performances, as you can see in the scoring.

What did everyone think of the parade? I'd love to see Hostrauser's thoughts on the rankings, even though he couldn't personally be there. A lot has changed since we were both competing in high school, back in the day when he was Spring-Heeled Jack. Were you in attendance, JCYS? PGOK?

Congratulations to Armijo and their fine director, Louise Jacob, for an outstanding job. Makes me proud.
"Soup"er man.

I was in attendance. I was music judge P-1.

Didn't get to see much, so I don't think I have a "take" on the scores.

Music wise, for some groups it was their peak performance, for others their groups peaked elsewhere.

I enjoyed the fine diversity of marches I heard.

My students always look forward to closing the season at TOC. The students gave their all.... performed their best of the season. And we received our lowest score all season. Oh well... it happens every year at TOC. So... if you go by the scores we haven't improved by the end of the season. LOL!

No matter... I see their growth and the students know we have a LONG way to go to get where we want. Onward and upward!

Enjoy your Thanksgiving break all ... next stop .... winter guard/percussion.
You can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish!

It happens. I remember the same thing happening to us at TOC in... 1991? We were in an absolutely brutal division: Vallejo (I think Frank Bigoski was still alive then), Santa Cruz (maybe the Dean McNair era?), Amador Valley back when they were a solid parade band with Rocco Russomano at the helm, Granada, Livermore, and a few others. We placed fourth (albeit a close fourth) and were bummed out, but our director was thrilled and couldn't care less about the score or placement because we gave our strongest performance at our toughest competition.

Scores were low mainly because we had a judge who gave out very low scores for the day and it made the difference. I can't say anything when I score i'm following the criteria and i give out low numbers.
