You may have already seen this but it is a particularly good article on the benefits of Marching Band.

Unfortunately probably preaching to the choir as the saying goes. I'm sure plenty of people would argue the same benefits from their activities.

I will say the article does a very nice job of addressing many of the specific advantages of high school band, even compared to other performing arts. Unfortunately as we often see actual research get ignored by the higher ups, anecdotal thoughts will get just as ignored.

But hey, at least more people understand what we all know.

My rule of thumb is advocate every day! Every booster meeting, every concert, every school board performance, etc. Post stuff on your band webpage/facebook page. The more we say it, the more people will hear it and someday will start to believe it.
