Trivia and Champions from the 2012 Marching Season

Post by JLGORMAN » Wed Nov 07, 2012 7:29 pm

For most of the nation, the competitive Band Season is History. I thought a few trivial nuggets of information would be interesting to you folks out on the West Coast who are stilll competing. Some strange but true facts from this season.

1. The Oklahoma Bandmasters Association(OBA) decided to go with BOA Score Sheets and judging standards. Wonder if this is because Broken Arrow and Owasso have done so well at BOA events?

2. Can you guess the number of Marching competitions in Montana? That is right there are none.

3. Short Marching Season. Wyoming has only two competitions, the University of Wyoming/Casper Troopers Invitational held on Oct 6 and the State Marching Contest in Casper on the 13th. Wyoming only has 34 football playing High Schools. They had 15 Bands at the State Marching Contest. NO winner was awarded however the results are on the WOP Rocky Mountain Scores Page

4. Unwelcome guests. The State of New Mexico only has two major Band Contests, The Zia Marching Fiesta at UNM and the NMSU Tournament of Bands. This year Zia was won by the Air Academy HS Band from Colorado Springs, CBA 4A Champions, who beat Clovis in the finals. At the Tournament of Bands, in the Finals, 9 of the 10 Bands to include the winner were from Texas. Folks in NM are not amused.

5. Honoring State Champions from this fall
Colorado 1A Cedar Ridge. 2A D"Evelyn. 3A Centaurus. 4A Air Academy 5A Fossil Ridge.

Mississippi 1A Stringer. 2A Union. 3A Ripley. 4A Lewisburg. 5A Pearl. 6A Petac

Oklahoma 1A Kiefer. 2A Hennessey. 3A Berryhill. 4A. Piedmont. 5A Coweta. 6A Broken Arrow.

Nebraska Class AA Champion Bellvue West. No Champions in other classes

Kentucky 1A Beechwood. 2A Glasgow. 3A Bourbon County. 4A Madisonville, North Hopkins. 5A Lafayette

South Carolina 1A Powdersville. 2A Strom Thurmond. 3A Chapin. 4A Fort Mill. 5A Wando

Wisconsin Class A Cumberland. Class AA Glendale. Class AAA River Falls. Class AAAA Waukesha

Tennessee Division 1. Fred J. Page. Division 2. Cascade

Texas AAA Argyle. AAAAA Marcus

Best competitions most of you have never heard of. A. The Bandmasters Invitational at the University of Memhis. B. Youth in Music Contest at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. C LA Showcase of Bands, UL Lafayette. Scores for all three events are on the scores page with LA and the Bandmasters under TX and YIM in the Rocky Mountain.
From those of us finished with competitive marching. Good luck to the rest of you

Broken Arrow, Union, and Owasso have been using BOA sheets at their own shows for years, and have been pushing the OBA in this direction.

Can you name the number of competition marching bands in Montana? One. Bozeman HS is the only school in the state to have traveled outside state borders to compete.

Good list. I would add the MCBA (Michigan) State Championships at Ford Field in Detroit, and the NYSFBC (New York) State Championships at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse
