I can vouch almost 100% for the Mt. Miguel number, as my wife marched in the last of those 7 Rose Parade appearances (1991).

Hasn't Fairfield H.S. from up north been in the parade six or seven times? Seemed like they were going every other year in the 80s and 90s.

Mt. Miguel must be at least 8 times then, because the years I have are 1966, 1969, 1971, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1979 -- so 1991 makes 8.

The list I received from the Tournament of Roses Music Committee has been far from accurate. For one thing it starts at 1970, but I have another list of just California bands that goes back to 1950.

Fairfield HS only appears twice - 1994, 2000

Fairfield was in the 1980 Rose Parade, directed by Mitchell Jones.

Thanks Dean, they DO appear on the 1970-2007 list of ALL bands but not on the California list. I'm going to have to audit the two lists and identify and correct the expediencies.

At the risk of highjacking the highjacking, I'd like to make some comments for AFOB based on videos of the Loara band review and my attendance at Chino this past weekend.

Loara delivered a very nice version of Army of the Nile (no overly-staccato delivery, good tempo and none of the slowing down of many versions), particularly at Chino. Based on their placement, however, I obviously miss things the judges do not. I think Loara has a good chance of making it back into class AA at Arcadia.

Glendora was so good with The Mad Major at both, but again especially at Chino, that I think they have excellent chance of a top three placement at AFOB on the street.

It's really too bad Poway no longer completes at Arcadia's field show. Their performance at Mt. Carmel was worthy of winning it all.

El Dorado's field show at Chino was spectacular. I think ED or Chino are serious threats for field sweeps next week.

South El Monte's rendition of Eagle Squadron this past week was really nice - big, confident sound from a small band. They'll be higher than their current placement at next year's AFOB.

Since I am much better with music than judging marching (unless it's really atrocious), you may or or may not agree. I'd be happy for feedback, though.

How about the Santa Ana Band Review, the day before All Western? When did that one fold and why?

That was the California Band Review. It ended a few years after All Western. Lack of support from the city and fewer bands attending because of All Western being gone. Many bands travelled to the area for both events.

Parade Band Foundation is proud to be the sponsor of three parade clinics for three competing bands at this year's Arcadia Festival of Bands!

The clinics will be conducted by Parade Band Foundation board members, Tom Landes (Former director, Arcadia HS) and Tom Cole (Former director, Rancho Bernardo HS).

One band will be selected by random draw from each Class C, B, and A. The winning bands will be announced at the awards ceremony in the afternoon.

We wish all the bands the best of luck and skill heading into this Saturday!

Of course, all of this will be in THE BOOK.

I'm going to stop now. I think I just heard vore's head explode!

Dear vore:

Please publish THE BOOK while I still have enough marbles left to quote it as if I had the encyclopedic knowledge myself. No one will believe me if I can't remember my own name but I can tell them Loara's march and Long Beach score in 1973.

(Please do not explode until I can move out of the splash zone.)

There are conflicting forecasts of rain for Saturday. Let's see which one pans out. Break out the ponchos!

National Weather Service (weather.gov) and Weather Channel (weather.com) both showing 30% chance of showers in the day and 10% precipitation at night. Accuweather.com showing 17% day and 10% night.

Time to start doing the anti-rain dance!

Both the Band Review and Field Tournament will be held RAIN or SHINE, but let's hope it'll be dry the entire day!

If it does rain, at least it won't be anything compared to what we experienced in 2010:
South Hills HS
Eastlake HS
