Nice to see Whitney from Cerritos make the trip up north!

Based on the divisions, it looks like bands are classified by size. That's pretty much become the standard in NorCal now, hasn't it?

I think except for Santa Cruz they are all that way now. SC is also the only one with inspection left. Most do not have divisions as large as Foothill though....usually more like 5 or 6 bands instead of 9 or so. Foothill seems to be basing theirs on set sizes like field show, which they have not done in the past

Actually, I'm hoping that Luis would make the trip up north like he did in 2010! :P Any chance?

Hi Eric. I'll be at the Loara Band Review this Saturday. Hopefully you can film most, if not all, bands that perform at the Foothill Band Review.

That DIVISION "5-A" is huge!! NCBA RULE: 96 members and over - leaves a lot of room to be huge. Just saying. Best wishes to all who will be at FOOTHILL!

Does anyone have the sizing breakdown for each division, parade and field?

According to the handbook:
Class A No greater than 35 total musicians
Class AA 36 to 50 total musicians
Class AAA 51 to 70 total musicians
Class AAAA 71 to 95 total musicians
Class AAAAA 96 and up or any number of musicians (a band in a
lower Class may request to be in this division) Bands may not move down a
division

Since we don't normally do NCBA events, I hadn't really paid attention to the breakdown of size by division before seeing them in this thread.

That's a pretty significant spread in the 5A division in terms of the sizes of some of those bands.

Maybe it's time for a 6A division?

If they are going strictly by the NCBA guidelines, how are some of the bands that are in 3A at this show in 4A at other NCBA shows.

Don't contest sites have the ability to move people around to fill out divisions?

For example Del Oro is a 3A at Foothill and a 4A at Folsom the following week...

Uhhh... As a band that will be marching 112 musicians at Foothill in the same division with bands that are almost TRIPLE (certainly double) our size... I am in favor of a sixth division or a more "realistic" spread of the five division. I mean my goodness... 112 Musicians to go 'against' I believe a band of 280 (a number that has been given out for one of the bands) is "fair??" I know that there are bands such as Granite Bay that could hold their own with the 280 - SO MAKE AN OPEN DIVISION AND LET GBHS COMPETE AGAINST 'SAID' BAND. I also think we need to have divisions by MUSICIANS.
