Out of curiosity, what are some of the band sizes in Class A & AA?

If these schools have 20-30 piece bands, they'd already be well over the average proportional band membership around here...

Edit: For fun, let's say Sundown has 50 marchers (though it looks like potentially more than that), with the school's enrollment listed by wikipedia as 157.

If Arcadia High School students were as enthusiastic about their program, they'd be marching 1,178(!!!!!) members.

And... Edit #2: The (1A-sized) Los Angeles High School, again given the same student enthusiasm, would be marching nearly 700 students, and would be the largest marching band in the United States. I just thought that was a more vibrant example.

Heh. Yeah, that's what I was expecting. Sundown H.S. has 178 kids, and based on that YouTube video they look to be marching 70-75 of them. I'm sure there are AA bands that march over 100, with only 250 kids in the whole school.

Yes: Several of the Class AA Schools march over 100, some over 150. Queen City is the 4 time defending Class AA Champion. Quite an accomplishment for small enrollment schools. This year 142 Class A Bands competed in UIL and 200 Class AA Bands competed for the trip to San Antonio.These schools are the mighty mites of TX Bands. Located often in rural, non-growing areas they still put out good programs under difficult conditions. Go to a Class A Football game and at halftime the Band has football players, Cheerleaders, volleyball players marching in the Band. It really is an all school event.
The Class AAAAA Bands would like to have SMC every year. That is because they have big schools with large budgets and staffs. To its credit, Sundown rates as High in the UIL Band programs as does LD Bell or Marcus. I hope TX never forgets that music exists for all of our students and not just the wealthy and large programs. When a town shuts down to go 500 miles one way to see the Band perform we are doing something good.
