WBA Rankings, Week 5 (10/31/11)

by Hostrauser
A day early, for your viewing pleasure, since all the recaps are already available from yesterday's shows...

This is my attempt to compare and adjust scores from competition to competition to create an overall ranking of the competitive environment. The sports polls for colleges do a Top 25, so that's what I will do, too. The rankings are based solely upon statistical analysis of the judges' scores and not personal opinion.

BANDS WILL NOT BE RANKED UNTIL THEY HAVE COMPETED

In WBA, the A/AA/AAA scores are adjusted to put them on a comparable level with the AAAA/AAAAA scores, since the two categories use different criteria on the sheets.

You're forgetting Milpitas HS (3A) for this and last week's rankings.

I have seen Ayala's show this year (Oct 1) and saw the potential for them having a great season. Now they are ranked on top. It will be fun to watch what happens over the next three weeks.

No. No, I'm not.

Milpitas is currently 13th in AAA, albeit only 0.6 out of the Top 10.

I notice that you have El Diamante ranked ahead of Oak Grove in AAAA. Not disputing your ranking, just wondering why (since Oak Grove scored higher than El Diamante head-to-head at Sierra Cup Classic this past weekend).
I had the opportunity to watch Oak Grove, El Diamante, and Lemoore at Sierra Cup Classic this past Saturday. Very entertaining shows, all of them.
I enjoy looking at your WBA rankings. Thanks.

Quite simply, because Oak Grove only beat El Diamante by a tenth of a point, and that one shot wasn't enough to offset El Diamante's cumulatively superior prior performances.

Where is Los Alamitos? Didn't they outscore Highland and South Hills at the Mission Viejo competition? Or does the fact that they are AAA instead of AAAA not put them on the top 25?

A/AA/AAA cannot be directly compared to AAAA/AAAAA scores in WBA. So, yes, after the adjustment they weren't in the Top 25. #28, actually.

Well this is embarrassing. I didn't notice that you were only posting the Top 10 bands. Any chance of listing the entire thing after the weekend before finals?

I might expand the rankings after next weekend, and definitely will when I do post-season rankings (since not every band attends championships).

After watching Granite Bay at DUBLIN and seeing the recap (placing ahead of HOMESTEAD in three of the five captions) .... they are on their way of being a FORCE to be respected in WBA. Congratulations to Lynn, students, staff and boosters. VERY IMPRESSIVE.

The very same Homestead that has been nipping at James Logan's heels this year.
