Thank you! And yes, parade staging and the concert competition have been historically held at Amador Valley. A few years back in the 90s the parade awards were even held at AVHS because the field competition was already going on at Foothill.

And here's how old I am - back in the early 80s there was no concert competition and parade awards were held at the Alameda County Fairgrounds! I participated in the parade in the alumni band in the late 80s and I'm not sure if they had concert competition then or not but they still had parade awards at the fairgrounds back then.

When I marched in the competition in 1991 the awards were still at the Fairgrounds.

It think that was the last year, though. The next time we went to Pleasanton (1993?) the awards were at Amador Valley.

1997 - street awards still at AVHS. I recall staying on-campus for the rest of the time until hearing Fairfield I & II (yes, TWO marching ensembles) take all the awards.

Our band did not attend in 1998, but in 1999 the awards were at Foothill HS. And I presume it has been that way ever since.

Yep. Russ Campbell's band was up to 240 kids and he didn't want to put them all in one block. Scarlet Brigade I was the top tier band, 140 kids and the focus of the majority of Russ's attention. Scarlet Brigade II had about 100 kids, and Russ gave the reins on that band to his assistant director, Louise Jacob (now director of Armijo).

At least that's how I remember it. Russ and Louise are both members here on WOP, maybe one of them will pitch in with a confirmation or correction.

We would normally be at this competition but our homecoming game is this Saturday and the administration expects the band to be there...

Congratulations to all the ensembles who performed yesterday. Nice to hear/see Saratoga and Amador Valley at an NCBA event. Great to see how awesome Joe Kelly's FREMONT high school did!! Granite Bay ... of course ... very strong. As always I learned an awful lot.
