whoa. i didn't notice how many schools do scsboa competitions. Kinda sucks that not everyone sign up to get on the grid and try to get to the top 12 spot for championship... hope by the next update, more schools will be on the grid because its almost empty so far.

The grid is not "almost empty." What you see on the website is a list of schools whose directors are SCSBOA members. Based on the number of applications that have been delivered to the SCSBOA office this week, not to mention the numbers of emails, faxes, snail mail championships applications, the grid will be plenty full by the October 15 deadline.

Also, many more bands than what you have mentioned "do SCSBOA competitions." Trust me...I play with that database every day!

Dave - I did the score sheets for a show on the 22nd of this month and noticed that Ramona HS - Riverside is in the 3A class. This could be incorrect, I am basing it off of the line-up I received. If only I could remember which show that was! ;)

Hey Dave.

Los Altos should be listed under the 4a division.

Don Lugo is 1A

Many school choose not to compete in the SCSBOA championships because of various reasons. I can give you our situation. After competing in SCSBOA championships for many years we stopped two seasons ago.

Reason #1) 3 qualifying shows instead of two. Most organizations have a one or two show requirement. With budgets getting smaller and smaller we decided we could not afford 4 SCSBOA shows.

Reason # 2) The date of championships extend the field show season past Thanksgiving and our district has that week off from school. It has been nice ending the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Reason #3) We made a choice to go to the SCJA championship instead. They have a two show requirement. SCJA is making a lot of adjustments (new sheets, new qualifying system) to better serve the bands that perform at SCJA shows.
