Whether you love the precision and pageantry of parade bands playing classic marches from John Philip Sousa, Karl L. King, Henry Fillmore, or Kenneth J. Alford or you love the sights and sounds of today’s marching bands in their field performances interpreting music from classical to jazz to popular, you will want to attend the

41st Annual
Chino Invitational
Band Review
and
Field Show Tournament

Long considered one of the largest and most prestigious marching band competitions in California, the event is actually made up of three different competitions –
1. 08:00 am AM Field Show Tournament – 12 high school bands, Divisions 1A, 2A, 3A
2. 12:00 pm Band Review (parade of bands) – 40 high school and middle school bands, All Classifications
3. 05:30 pm PM Field Show Tournament – 15 high school bands, Division 4A, 5A, 6A, and Host
An additional Grand Sweepstakes Winner will be determined based on combined parade and (PM) field tournament scores. Many of Southern California’s top parade and field bands regularly attend the Chino Invitational.

The Chino Invitational is hosted by the award-winning Chino 77TH Cavalry Band and Pageantry, under the direction of Mr. Doug Bowden. Chairmen for the event are Harold R. Nelms and Dennis P. Rodda.

The Field Show Tournaments take place on the campus of Chino High School, 5472 Park Place, Chino, CA 91710. The Band Review takes place a block south of the high school on Riverside Drive, from 13th Street to 10th Street, with the judges’ stand located at Riverside Drive and 11th St. An additional area is designated on Park Place from 10th Street to 12th Street for bands to perform for members of the Music Committee of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses, for consideration for inclusion in the 2013 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade.

Spectator admission to the Field Tournament (good all day) is $10 general admission, $8 students w/ID and seniors. The Band Review is open to the public at no charge.

The entry fee for the Chino Invitational is $200 per band for the Band Review or Field Show Tournament, or $400 per band for both competitions, plus $50 for drill teams competing in the Band Review. The application deadline is September 26, 2011.

Judges for the event are provided by the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA), evaluating and placing performances for high school and middle school groups in the categories of band, drill team, auxiliary, and drum major in the Band Review and for high school groups in the categories of band, auxiliary, and percussion in the Field Show Tournaments.

Just wanted to remind anyone interested that the application deadline for this event is Monday, September 26, 2011. We can take up to 40 bands in the band review (parade, for the band review-challenged) and 26 bands in the field show tournament. We are close to capacity now. I can take a verbal reservation, but after September 26 I make no guarantees. Please let me know if your plans include the Chino Invitational. Thanks.

Dennis
