Youth Band Festival 1963
I just picked up a double LP from eBay. I am no where near a turntable, so it will probably be a month or two before I can listen to it. I will list the tracks, but there is no indication who plays what. If there are announcements on the LP, I will update this later. My GUESS is two massed band (A&B) and the Honor Band.
My first Youth Band Festival was 1971 at the Shrine. Can any of you oldtimers (I was seven when this took place) add anything?

AWESOME. Get that converted to disc and I'll buy a copy. I'm pretty sure my brother was in the Downey City Youth Band at that time.

Re: Youth Band Festival 1963
OMG !! I just stumbled onto this site - having googled my old band name. (Let's see if someone can guess which one, based on my UserName.)
1963 was my first Youth Band Festival, at the Hollywood Bowl. Actually, in '63 I was in the "junior" band connected with that higher level group. The festivals started at the Shrine Auditorium the following year. I can't get to my band albums - too much clutter in the spare room - or I could possibly help with telling you which bands played on which sides. Also - doesn't that double album have small pictures of each band on the inside?
And - I don't recall the Long Beach Junior Concert Band at that '63 Hollywood Bowl concert. I don't even recall them at the '64 one at the Shrine. But I was a young teenager in those years, and can't remember everything after - OMG again - 47 years !!

To PGOK..regarding the Hollywood Bowl 1963 Youth Band Council album...did you ever transfer the material? If not, I can help. South Gate Youth Band alumnus from 1977-1984...would love to hear this album.

I found your post while looking for my old band.
Sadly, I have no program from the event but I would love to hear the album.
Did you ever get it transferred to disk?

Re: Youth Band Festival 1963
I was in the Pasadena Boy's Club Band and participated in the 1963 Youth Band Festival at the Hollywood Bowl. I and a few others from the band were selected to represent the band. I played first chair, first clarinet in the BC Band but was only good enough to be in the third clarinet section of the youth band. It was a great opportunity. BTW stewartjames008, Walt's last name is spelled Laursen. The pic of the BC Band from about this same year & my certificate. I was in the band from 7th to 9th grade. I can send the pic to anyone who wishes to have it. I too would really like a copy of that concert if it is available in any format.
