What's your march?

Post by twinmomma » Wed Mar 04, 2009 12:15 pm

You know, the one you hum in your head when you're walking and you want to get wherever you are going faster? The one that is your "default" theme when you decide to fall into step at the shopping mall?

You know you have one.

I'll go first.

Fairest of the Fair. And sometimes, Under the Double Eagle. But mostly Fairest of the Fair.

Well, it was probably "March Grandioso" since I played it "back in the days" with the MM100. But now because I have heard it so much this year being a band parent with Golden Valley, it has to be "The Boys of the Old Brigade"! I've heared it played in competition, the practices for the Rose Parade, the first trumpet part here at home (at least 100 times since August) and I am still not tired of it!!!! :D

Currently it's a rotation of three Fucik marches:
Herkules
Einzug der Olympischen Meisterringers
Kinizsi

Could be any one at any given moment.

I concur with Baritone Player. The Boys of the Old Brigade is nothing short of fantastic. :king:

My runner up is another W. Paris Chambers march, The Chicago Tribune.

And finally, as I logged onto WOP tonight, I just happened to be humming a little march that made its debut in SoCal this year and I look forward to hearing it here in the Northland real soon, and that would be Eagle, Globe, and Anchor. Gotta love that Waltzing Matilda trio.

Unter der Admirals Flagge-Julius Fucik

I can be caught any given day busting into song and dance with this march. It's almost always in my head, and now it's my ringtone! Literally every day, I will start singing it out of nowhere, and when there's room, some colorguard work comes out as well. When I'm a band director, this will be played probably twice. Once as soon as I build a program strong enough to tackle it(and do it well), and my last year of teaching. :yeah: :yeah:

Haha, you totally would choose that one, Ben. I, on the other hand, don't really have any default march. I like too many to just fall back on one.

I guess I always shift around between "H.M. Jollies," "Muhledorf," "Arnhem," among a few others. I actually hum more hornpipes and reels than marches, haha. I've kinda crossed over to the pipe band world. ;p
