I just found this great video of the Statue of Liberty All-American College Marching Band from 1986 on YouTube and figured I had better post it here. The drill and guard is a old-school by today's standards, but it is extremely well performed. This band was put together from Centennial Celebration of the Statue of Liberty. Enjoy!

For you new age drill designers, what concepts would you have used for a 500 piece band if this performance was to be this year?

Wow. No doubt, what it may lack in difficulty it more than makes up for in execution. That's impressive.

John Williams' "Liberty Fanfare" was also written for this event.

The Director of the Band Was Dr. Arthur Bartner of the USC Trojan Band. You might notice very strong similarities between their drill and how the Spirit of Troy drills. Most of you younger folks never got to see the 1984 Olympic Marching Band directed by Dr. Bartner also. The centennial of the Statue of Liberty in 1986 was a "BIG DEAL" with both the Presidents of the USA and France on hand for the presentation of the refurbished Statue of Liberty.

Good Lord, I haven't seen that video since my Beta Machine broke down. I am running to grab my Bill Moffitt texts and Patterns of motion workbooks. It was a great moment that thrilled millions of people. :D

That was one of the greatest experiences of my life. 31 years ago. We spent about 3 weeks at William Patterson College in Wayne, NJ prior to Liberty Weekend in preparation for that performance and several others that took place over the course of the 4-day celebration. We worked our backsides off, partied like you would imagine 500 college students living communally might, and made a lifetime of memories. Great times.
